FOSTER OR VOLUNTEER

FOSTER

Having A Kennel Facility Doesn’t Mean We Don’t Need Fosters!

Unfortunately, there is a misconception that if a rescue has kennels, they don’t need fosters. Fosters are an important part of any rescue. Not all dogs do well in a kennel environment and some need a respite stay in a quiet place after a medical procedure. There are many reason why a home-based foster is needed a plays a crucial role in rescue. Becoming a foster means providing a home for an adoptable animal on a short-term basis while GOFAR searches for an adopter for the animal. However, each animal is different and therefore no two foster experiences are exactly the same. Most of our fosters provide a short-term home for a few weeks for a dog newly out of a county animal shelter, and help socialize the dog with people and other animals. Some fosters love helping out with litters of puppies or kittens, and will take in a pregnant mom or mom and newborns and help them through nursing and weaning until the babies are ready for their forever homes. Other fosters provide homes to sick or injured animals, and may have their dog or cat through a longer recovery period.

You can decide what is best for you and your family. No matter which option you prefer, you will be providing a temporary loving environment for an animal in need.

GOFAR will provide everything you need for your temporary family member, from crates and collars to flea prevention and food. Your foster will get all medical care at one of our veterinary partners at no cost to you. Our volunteers will advertise your pets for their forever homes, do home checks, and even transport when necessary. All you need to do is treat your foster like your own so she or he can be confident, happy & healthy until the right forever family is found!

VOLUNTEER

Volunteers are the lifeblood of animal rescues! There are so many ways to become involved, including helping at fundraisers and other events, administrative work like application processing, legal help, doing home checks for potential adopters, photographing our beautiful fosters, fundraising, social networking, and transporting animals from shelters to foster homes or to vet appointments. Whatever your talents are, please consider donating your time to GOFAR! We are stronger because of our volunteers. Please fill out the Volunteer Application below and we will be in touch.

YOUR DONATIONS SAVE LIVES

Donations can make a big difference to the success of a small rescue like GOFAR.  Although most of our animals come to us healthy, there are those that need extra medical care that adoption fees do not cover.  The price tag to care for an animal in our program can add up quickly - even young puppies and kittens have expenses like spay/neuter, vaccinations and illness.  Whatever it is, if we have committed to helping an animal, then we are all in.  Here are some examples of what donations of even small amounts will help with:

$25 can provide a puppy or kitten with vaccinations to protect it from life-threatening viruses

  • $50 will buy a bag of food to feed a litter of puppies for 2 weeks, or a box of flea/tick preventative for 6 animals

  • $75 will cover gas to transport 20 rescues from shelters to foster homes

  • $200 will cover a spay/neuter procedure for an animal in rescue and prevent an unwanted litter and more homeless pets

  • $400 will cover dental procedure for an elderly rescue and make the difference between being able to eat or not

  • $600 will treat a dog with heartworm disease and help save the dog’s life

ALL DONATIONS ARE 100% TAX DEDUCTIBLE!
